CNY Craft Ideas Singapore: Make Your Own Agamograph

With the pandemic still going strong and the number of covid cases increasing rapidly, household visiting might have been on a decline.

However, that shouldn’t have to dampen your moods! Are you looking to spice up your decor and living space? Sick and tired of the usual CNY decor?

Today, Artist Celine Chia shares with us some CNY craft ideas in Singapore, where you can create your own Agamograph to spruce up your home.

Materials Needed for CNY Craft Ideas – Agamograph:

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • A4 Paper
  • Coloured Markers

Here are the steps to create your own Agamograph:

Start by folding the A4 paper into 8 equal segments. (Follow the dotted lines in the image below)

Next, visualise the end result of the Agamograph. In this case, we are planning out the proportions for the ox (subject) and the numerical year ‘2021’. In your case, you are of course free to do your own design, from drawing animals to mythical beings and even extinct creatures.

Use your pencil to draft out the subject. Remember to take into account the spacing and proportions of the subject. You can use the dotted lines as a reference on the amount of space required between the subject and the year.

Before colouring the subject, make sure you do a check of your proportions by folding the Agamograph and view your art piece at an angle. Edit the lines where necessary if they do not intersect when you view it. (alternate panel angle)

After you have drafted out the proportions of the subject, we then move on to the numerical year.

Add your own unique twist to the Agamograph! Here, we added a cute miniature ox to add a little more flavour to it.

When you’re satisfied with the drawing, we then proceed by using coloured markers to bring our artwork to life!

To add a little more definition and clarity to our subject, outline its features with black marker.

… and you’re done! Feel free to add your own creative touch to take your work to the next level.
